DistortedSoul.com Under Renovation

Thursday, May 8th, 2008

It’s kind of messy around here… That’s because we’re renovating the site and making some improvements. In a few short weeks everything will be all bright, shiny and new.

If it’s unbearable for you, check out the MySpace Page. Or check out my MTV Street Team ‘08 reports at Think.MTV.Com/Nadir/.

Peace!

Review by Bob Davis, www.soul-patrol.com

“If the bump ain’t crunk,
if the funk ain’t pumpin’
with the thump in the trunk,
then the bump ain’t bumpin’!
You just gotta Leave It Alone, Leave It Alone!”

As a few of you know, I have been really, really busy of late. In fact I have been so busy that I haven’t been able to get out and see many shows in 2008. This may well be the only show that I see in 2008. (sike….I’ll be seeing Ryan Shaw this week in NYC).

I haven’t been able to even find the time till now, to write this review of Nadir’s show.

But here it is and let me start out by saying that if this were going to be the only live show that I saw in 2008, I would be alright with that. Nadir put on an outstanding show, but more importantly he proved to me that he has a rare quality in a modern artist, in that he is able to also overcome “adversity.”

Global Thursdays at the Arab American National Museum featuring Nadir’s Distorted Soul

Tuesday, March 4th, 2008

The Arab American National Museum is the first museum in the world devoted to Arab American history and culture.

Arab Americans have enriched the economic, political and cultural landscape of American life. By bringing the voices and faces of Arab Americans to mainstream audiences, the museum continues its commitment to dispel misconceptions about Arab Americans and other minorities. The Museum brings to light the shared experiences of immigrants and ethnic groups, paying tribute to the diversity of our nation.

Every Thursday the museum showcases music, art and culture from around the world at the Ford/Comerica Global Thursdays. On March 6, the sounds of NADIR’s Distorted Soul will fill the museum’s beautiful 150 seat auditorium. For this special Global Thursdays appearance, the award-winning songwriter and his group will highlight the acoustic, jazz and world music elements of their dance floor friendly repertoire.

NYC’s Synchronized Rhythm features Nadir

Tuesday, February 19th, 2008

“New York City was recently blessed with a live performance from funk guitarist & vocalist, Nadir. He has been mystifying audiences for many years with that ’stone cold funk’ that undeniably rocks your world, get your hips gyrating and your head bobbin’!”

Inside Look: Nadir on Detroit Fashion Pages

Friday, February 15th, 2008

Everyone’s approach to life is just a little bit different than the next cat. Some of us need to isolate and conquer, one task at a time, in order to get where we’re going.

Don’t lump Nadir Omowale in that group.

To say that the East Tennessee transplant to Detroit is busy these days would be a serious understatement. Nadir juggles the responsibilities of running a company and involvement in various causes and organizations, all the while playing his award-winning music with his band Nadir’s Distorted Soul.

Topping it all off is his current stint with MTV as the Choose or Lose 2008 correspondent to the state of Michigan, which lasts until the presidential election in November.

DFP caught up with the ultra-motivated multi-threat himself to learn a little bit more about the man.

Blues Talkin - MTV Pounds the Political Pavement with Street Team ‘08

Friday, January 11th, 2008

MTV Street Team ‘08 reporter Nadir explains that the exodus of manufacturing jobs has Michigan residents concerned about the economy at MTV Headquarters in New York on Jan. 9.

I’m just getting back from a tremendous experience at MTV’s Street Team ‘08 orientation and boot camp. MTV News has assembled a dynamic, diverse and passionate group of 51 citizen journalists to cover each state and Washington DC.

MTV’s Choose or Lose and the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation have charged us with “uncovering the untold political stories that matter most to young people in [our] states”. We’ll submit weekly reports that will be published online, and on mobile devices. The goal - as with all of MTV News’s Choose or Lose campaigns since 1992 - is to get young people involved in the US presidential elections, to energize the youth electorate, and to help them understand that they can make a difference if they use their voices.
