You know it. Times are tough all over. The global economy is sputtering and struggling.
Here in Michigan life has been rough for a while now. While the Big Three automakers have shown signs of life with a recent return to short-term profitability, we are by no means running on all cylinders just yet.
What is running full steam here is creativity. Though unemployment is high and jobs are scarce, Michigan residents are developing creative ways to stimulate growth, create jobs and earn money.
One group of activists are waging a campaign designed to boost the local economy by promoting local business. The 2nd Annual Buy Michigan Now Festival, held this weekend, August 6-8 in downtown Northville, is part of that effort. Nadir’s Trio Soul helps provide the soundtrack.

M’s Gathering Place Gets Fresh in the West – Nadir in Garden City, Michigan, Friday July 30

If you live in Detroit’s western suburbs, you’ve been forced to drive a half hour – either to the D in the east or Ann Arbor in the west – to get a decent meal and catch a good show. That sad condition changed last week with the opening of M’s Gathering Place on Ford Road in Garden City. The new restaurant and live music venue promises fresh, tasty, affordable food along with outstanding music from Detroit’s top talent.
Owner Mary Hauk, recognized a void in the market, and created a new business to fill it. “I felt the community needed a place where we could come and listen to great music, and enjoy a good meal in a nice, clean, family atmosphere.”
M’s delivers a diverse menu of live entertainment to match the variety of delicious dishes that emerge from the kitchen. A wide range of artists from Detroit blues stalwart Howard Glazer and world music mavericks Zap Toro share the spotlight with succulent seafood, big beefy burgers, farm-fresh produce and stellar pizza.
On Friday, July 30, Nadir and his band provide a funky kick start to M’s grand opening weekend which will feature seven bands outside and inside all weekend long. Come out and sample the fantastic food and magnificent music at Metro Detroit’s newest hot spot – M’s Gathering Place.
