Celebrating Malcolm
May 19, 2010 would have been the 85th birthday of El Hajj Malik el-Shabazz, better known throughout the world as Malcolm X. Though his teachings are still controversial to some, most educated observers understand that Malcolm X was a highly skilled community organizer, a powerful social justice advocate, and an enlightened spiritual leader.

We’ll remember Malcolm X at a celebration on May 19 at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History called 365-50 Malcolm X. This event is from 6p.m.-9p.m. in the auditorium
Performers include:
Poets from Detroit Community Schools, Pasture Dance Factory, and Celebrated Local Poets Rhonda Welsh, Supreme, Tom Budday, Valencia “Numi” Vanner.
Special Musical Performances by Big A, 5 Ela, Supa Emcee, Kiko, and Khary WAE Frazier featuring Nadir

Mi-Funk Fest in Lansing – Sat. May 22

The producers of the Lansing Jazzfest & Old Town Bluesfest announce the first annual Mi-FUNK concert event.
