“Sign Your Name” on RadioSophie.com San Diego
“Now there’s a reason to turn off your iPod.” Sophie 103.7 is reclaiming “the tastemakers” for terrestrial radio.
The programmers at 103.7FM in San Diego have recognized that terrestrial radio has been steadily losing its most influential listeners. Narrow radio playlists have helped Pandora and the iPhone move a lot of units.
Sophie says no more. They want to take back the discerning listeners, the music lovers.
Oh. And, by the way… They’re playing my record.
Sophie is spinning DJ Butterface and Nadir’s coffeehouse house take on Sananda Maitreya’s classic “Sign Your Name” from the Workin’ For the Man album. It was Mike “DJ Butterface” Bazini’s idea to rework the timeless ballad from Maitreya’s phenomenal debut, Introducing the Hardline According to Terrence Trent D’Arby. That album was very important to my development as an artist, and the song, one of my favorites.
Sananda has always been an independent spirit, even when he was on a major label. He and artists like Me’Shell Ndegeocello, Fishbone, and of course, Prince taught me that it’s okay to play from my heart… as long as you keep it funky.
Thanks to Sophie music director Cristy Westfall and DJ/radio host/incredible human being Jane Asher for supporting independent music and real music lovers.
